Periodontitis is a form of gum disease that can destroy the bones, gums and tissue that support the teeth. Left untreated, this can lead to a loss of one or more teeth. Regular cleanings are one of the most important things you can do to prevent periodontitis. MINT dentistry is very aggressive in the treatment of periodontal gum disease because once bone is lost, it’s gone forever. The deep cleaning treatment process, known as “Scaling and Root Planing” removes bacteria, calculus (tartar), and debris that has collected under the gum line that fosters bacteria growth. Three out of four Americans have some form of periodontal disease and only three out of one hundred will ever get treated before it’s too late.

Why use MINT?

Periodontal cleanings (or Scaling & Root Planing) require the kind of skilled and compassionate hygienist you will find at MINT. We have the technology and know-how to remove tartar above and below the gum line.  In many cases, we will employ a strong topical agent (or local anesthetic) to help make the cleaning more comfortable for the patient- along with massage chairs, Beat headphones and sedation therapy to keep you comfortable.

A filling is required when a cavity has been drilled out of a tooth. The purpose of a filling is to protect the tooth against bacteria entering the empty space leading to a root canal. The most often used materials are an amalgam of mercury, silver and zinc or a natural looking composite resin.

Why use MINT?

MINT dentistry is a mercury free zone. The mercury in amalgam fillings is controversial, but we believe it’s poisonous and can leak, causing discoloring on adjacent teeth and can actually weaken the tooth. We use only the most expensive restorative resins with the least amount of shrinkage and best clinical trials for our fillings. Skilled MINT dentists, using the highest quality materials and newest equipment can have you in and out of the chair quickly.  Your filling will be bonded to the natural tooth creating a tight, superior fit. MINT fillings are durable, tissue compatible, and kind to the opposing teeth. Our technique allows us to preserve the greatest amount of natural tooth structure and lower the complication rate. Color and shading can be matched to the existing tooth as well. We do recommend that all patients come back for a bite adjustment after getting fillings to insure the bite is perfect.  Bite complications are almost unavoidable because the patient is numb.

MINT uses crowns and bridges in the repairing of severe dental problems like cracked, decayed, broken and lost teeth.  We place crowns on teeth when cavities are so big they literally cover the majority of the tooth structure.  And we use crowns to finish and protect a root-canaled tooth to prevent breakage.

MINT recommends a bridge when there are one or more missing teeth in the smile line. A crown is placed on the tooth on each side of the gap then an attached porcelain tooth called a Pontic is attached in between

Why use MINT?

It takes a skilled MINT dentist to remove decay, shape the tooth, and fit it with a temporary crown, then on a subsequent visit, successfully fit, adjust and cement the final crown in place. Our advanced techniques and premier materials insure your crown will fit right and last for decades.

MINT bridges are easier to install and less expensive than implants, and a great choice for any missing teeth in general, both posterior and anterior.  They have a long history of success.  And a MINT bridge should never be noticed, even by you!

At the center of your tooth is the pulp chamber. Infection or inflammation of the pulp can be caused by trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks and chips, or other dental procedures. You’ll know something is wrong either because you can see a visible injury or swelling of the gums near the tooth, or you’ll experience moderate to severe pain. If the tooth pain lasts for more then 10 seconds or wakes you up at night, or pain happens spontaneously you will most likely need a root canal. For all the talk about root canals, they can save your natural teeth and prevent the need of dental implants or bridges. And they’re not near as painful as urban legend has it.

Why use MINT?

A root canal at MINT, where we combine sedation therapy with nitrous oxide and massage chairs, will make you wonder what all the talk was about.

The doctors at MINT use a non-surgical treatment to eliminate the diseased pulp. This therapy usually involves local anesthesia and may be completed in one or more visits depending on the treatment required. We can relax you with nitrous oxide or relaxation therapy. You will be able to drive home after your treatment, and you probably will be comfortable returning to your normal routine.  Regular appointments can help you avoid root canals, but when needed, be assured your MINT dentist is an expert.

MINT recommends dental implants to replace missing posterior teeth and under dentures when applicable.  Dental implants are tiny titanium posts surgically placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. The bone bonds with the titanium posts creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth.

Why use MINT?

If our dentists determine an implant is necessary, you will be referred to a MINT implant specialist with the experience, know-how and skill to surgically place your implants, monitor your progress and then install your new teeth. This is why MINT implants are so life-like, and look, feel and act like natural teeth.

Missing teeth can impact your life, in the way you chew, the way you speak, even the way you look. Dentures replace natural teeth and provide support for the cheeks and lips. Full dentures and partial dentures – or bridges – are a common and inexpensive way to replace natural teeth. MINT dentistry creates customized dentures and partials that are comfortable, affordable, and make it possible for people to feel good about their smile again.  Implants are highly recommended under dentures for comfort and strength.

Full dentures are used when most of the teeth are damaged beyond repair.

Why use MINT?

MINT dentures are the ideal solution to replace a section of missing teeth, restore full chewing ability and to support your lips and cheeks.

Poorly fitted dentures can be an expensive, painful experience. Our special training in new denture technology puts incredibly comfortable dentures within everyone’s reach. This is an area where you need to consult with a true expert about different options and then be fitted properly. We excel in this treatment.

MINT has been named Best Family Dentist two years in a row and one reason is that is the way we treat kids 4-years old and older. When they roll into the door, we’ll give them an iPad already loaded with great kids games to keep them busy.  Then a talented dentist will make sure their teeth have no cavities and everything is growing in correctly. We suggest you bring young 18-months olds in so a MINT doctor can make sure there are no problems with an overbite or something structural. We’ll teach you the best way to care for your kid’s teeth so they can enjoy the benefits of healthy oral care all their lives.
