A deep cleaning is required to treat a gum disease also known as Periodontitis. Left untreated is how you can lose all your teeth and you end up in dentures. Getting regular cleaning is one of the most important things you can do for your overall health. Periodontitis is when plaque (or tarter) around teeth have inflamed the gums (gingivitis) and bone loss has occurred. Periodontitis is a form of gum disease that can destroy the bones, gums and tissue that support the teeth. MINT dentistry is very aggressive in the treatment of periodontal gum disease because once bone is lost, it’s gone forever. The deep cleaning treatment process, known as “Scaling and Root Planning”, removes bacteria, calculus (tartar), and debris that has collected under the gum line that fosters bacteria growth. Three out of four Americans have some form of periodontal disease and only three out of one hundred will ever get treated before it’s too late.
Why use MINT?
Periodontal cleanings (or Scaling & Root Planning) require the kind of skilled and compassionate hygienist you will find at MINT. We have the technology and know-how to remove tartar above and below the gum line. In many cases, we will employ a strong topical agent (or local anesthetic) to help make the cleaning more comfortable for the patient- along with massage chairs to relax you, Beat Headphones playing your favorite music, , and sunglasses to prevent splash-you get to keep.
MINT dentistry is a mercury free zone. MINT dentistry knows that the mercury in mercury fillings are poisonous, that they can leak causing discoloring on adjacent teeth and that they can actually weaken the tooth structure. Instead we use composite resin fillings for fillings, and crowns. Not only are they safer, they match the existing tooth structure. Often patients will ask us to replace all their silver fillings. Really this is our bread and butter, and we use only the most expensive restorative resins with the least amount of shrinkage and best clinical trials. We do recommend that all patients come back for a bite adjustment after getting fillings to insure the bite is perfect. Bite complications are almost unavoidable (being numb), so we recommend everyone stopping by after getting a filling.
Why use MINT?

CROWNS & BRIDGRES
MINT customers expect to have the most natural looking teeth in the world. And we’re ok with that because we use porcelain crowns and zirconia based bridges. MINT Crowns and bridges are extremely reliable for repairing the most severe dental problems including broken or lost teeth. We place crowns on teeth when cavities are so big they literally cover the majority of the tooth structure. Also when fillings have failed and recurrent dacay is so big a filling is too risky (cause the tooth will hurt or facture), or if the tooth is cracked, and over root canals to prevent breakage because root canaled teeth get very brittle. We almost never use metals under crowns or bridges, only in very rare circumstances with the patients consent would that ever be indicated at MINT. Most people don’t realize, metal underneath the porcelain is what causes the grey gum line most often seen in patients from other practices. We strive to be metal free for multiple reasons, beyond cosmetic concerns, people can have allergic responses to metal as well. Porcelain is proven to integrate with gum tissue way better. We were one of the first practices to implement E-Max Porcelain Crowns (many years ago) which were the industry changing, which many dentists today are still learning about- and switching to, but it helps every dental practice move away from metal with stronger porcelain than dental industry previously had.
A bridge is used when there is a gap in the smile, whether it’s one missing tooth or several. A MINT bridge is made up crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap — and a (Pontic) attached porcelain tooth in between. They are highly recommended with teeth in the smile line. Implants are a common mistake patients and doctors routinely diagnose for missing teeth in the smile line. In addition to having less risk and being less expensive than implants, bridges more consistently beautiful for missing front teeth and recommended at MINT (in most cases). They are a great choice for any missing teeth in general, both posterior and anterior. They have a long history of success. And a MINT bridge should never be noticed by the patient or friend.
Why use MINT?
It takes a skilled dentist to remove decay, shape the tooth, and fit it with a temporary crown. Then on a subsequent visit, to fit, adjust and cement the final crown or crowns in place. Our advanced techniques and premier materials insure your crown will fit right and can last for decades (if you keep coming back).
ROOT CANAL THERAPY
For all the talk about root canals, here are the facts. They can save your natural teeth and prevent the need of dental implants or bridges. And they’re not near as painful as urban legend has it. In fact, a root canal at MINT where we combine sedation therapy with nitrous oxide and massage chairs will make you wonder what all the talk was about.
Why would you need a Root Canal?
At the center of your tooth is the pulp chamber. Infection or inflammation of the pulp can be caused by trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks and chips, or other dental procedures. You’ll know something is wrong either because you can see a visible injury or swelling of the gums near the tooth, or you’ll experience moderate to severe pain. If the tooth pain lasts for more then 10 seconds or wakes you up at night, or pain happens spontaneously you will most likely need a root canal.
Why use MINT?
The doctors at MINT use a non-surgical treatment to eliminate the diseased pulp. This therapy usually involves local anesthesia and may be completed in one or more visits depending on the treatment required. We can relax you with nitrous oxide or relaxation therapy. You will be able to drive home after your treatment, and you probably will be comfortable returning to your normal routine. It is worth noting, whether MINT does your root canal, a specialist, or another office, root canaled teeth no longer are living, and they are in your body. You now have a tooth which normally had a blood supply, no longer getting blood- and the body can sometimes reject the perfectly done root canal years later. At MINT, our goal is to prevent root canals, we will do everything we can to avoid it for you, because we know, the entire point of going to the dentist to prevent root canals. But evening know the risks, root canals are still highly recommended over just pulling the teeth, and substantially less expensive than an implant, and for that reason we highly recommend them to patients who indicate the need for one.
MINT recommends dental implants to replace missing posterior teeth whenever possible and under dentures when applicable. Dental implants are tiny titanium posts which are surgically placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. The bone bonds with the titanium posts, which act as tooth root substitutes and create a strong foundation for artificial teeth. Small posts or attachments are then connected to the implant, which protrude through the gums. These posts or attachments provide stable anchors for artificial replacement teeth. There is a good chance we might have to refer you to another one of our offices to get the implant as not all of dentists are certified to place them, but those that are will make sure it’s worth the drive.
Why use MINT?
