in-Office Teeth Whitening

As an in-office procedure, teeth whitening does not require anesthesia. If you have dental anxieties or a strong gag-reflex, sedation options are available. Before your procedure begins, a MINT dentistry team member will help you settle into one of our luxurious treatment chairs where you will be invited to listen to your choice of music or watch television. Next, your teeth will be cleaned and dried, so the whitening solution can be applied evenly to your teeth. A protective barrier will be used on your gums and your eyes will be protected with a pair of stylish, MINT dentistry sunglasses. We will apply a professional-strength whitening gel to your enamel and then expose your teeth to the laser light. The combination of the gel and the laser will work together to break down the stains on your teeth. Depending on your current enamel color and desired outcome, this process may be repeated 2 – 3 times. Once your treatment is complete, the remaining gel and protective gum barrier will be removed before your mouth is rinsed.

Unless sedation was used, you should be able to leave immediately following your teeth whitening treatment to resume your normal day. However, you should avoid anything that may stain your teeth (lipstick, coffee, tobacco products) for at least 48 hours after your treatment. You may experience some sensitivity to hot and cold, but this should only last for 3 – 5 days. To maintain your results, you should brush your teeth as soon as possible after consuming staining food, beverages, and tobacco products. At home, you should follow a daily oral hygiene routine, including brushing and flossing to prevent new stains.
