Night Guards

While MINT dentistry is well-known for our smile transformations, we are also focused on protecting your teeth from damage. Teeth grinding (also known as bruxism) at night is a common problem that causes damage to your teeth, gums, and jaw. While the most visible sign of damage is wear or damage to the surface of the teeth, nocturnal bruxism can also cause headaches, tooth pain, inflammation, and pain in your jaw and neck. MINT dentistry's team of board-certified dentists offer custom night guards that can protect your mouth while you sleep. Custom night guards are made from high-quality materials utilizing state-of-the-art technology to fit you comfortably and prevent damage from teeth grinding and jaw clenching, helping you to achieve a better night’s sleep. Learn more about custom night guards at MINT dentistry by scheduling an appointment at your local MINT dentistry office.

There are many signs that you may be grinding your teeth and/or clenching your jaw at night. You may be a candidate for a night guard if you often wake up with a headache in addition to tightness, pain, or swelling in your jaw. Other signs that may suggest the need for a night guard include loose teeth or fillings, worn-down enamel on the tops of your back teeth, tooth sensitivity, and a receding gumline. Teeth grinding and clenching at night are typically caused by stress, but it may also be the result of allergies, misaligned teeth, a sleep disorder, or temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD). When a member of our highly skilled dental team is diagnosing bruxism, we will also try to determine the cause of the condition, so we can create a comprehensive treatment plan.

The Greenway location was so much fun to go to and the process was very smooth. The amenities and the staff made me feel very comfortable for a first time patient! Will be going back for a night guard very soon. S/o Rosie! My teeth feel clean as can be.

TL;DR: I'm no longer anxious to go to the dentist. I've been pretty skeptical of dentists my whole life....until I went to Mint. And I'm not just saying that because I'm writing a review and that's what 5 star reviews say. The staff at Mint is kind, patient, and present. They are there with you on a human to human basis, not an expert to non-expert basis. Dr. Latour fit me for a night guard since I was clenching and grinding my teeth - and since then, I haven't had headaches right away when I wake up! Dr. Latour took the time to explain to me how it would help, what the process is, and even what muscles it targets. Like seriously?

I have been going to Mint Dentistry for a year and this time was my first time visiting the Smyrna Location. I want to let everyone know that this is my new home, and I am fully locked in. I am new on my dental journey because growing up this was not an option. So naturally I am very nervous when I visit the dentist. My dental assistant Aaron was very friendly and funny and put my mind at ease. I did berate him with a lot of questions due to my science background and he answered them all very thoroughly. Dr.Barton was the best because he went into great detail about my oral health. He notified me that I grind my teeth and should wear a night guard, which was something nobody ever told me. He did not make his job solely on completing the fillings he was very adamant about informing me of ways to preserve my fillings as well. I also enjoyed that Dr.Barton was very gentle and his main focus was on my comfort. Honestly, he and Aaron made a perfect team. They are hilarious with their small talk and I don't even think that was intentional. I was constantly finding ways to chuckle. Thank you Mint Dentistry!!!!!

The staff at the Galveston office have renewed my faith in dentists. They listen!!! I needed two crowns and a night bite guard for my grinding. When I started the process I was in constant facial and tooth pain from grinding my teeth. After getting the night guard, my face and tooth pain were 80% better the next day. I needed to have the guard slightly adjusted to achieve total comfort and was able to get that done the day I called. I don't live in Galveston-just visiting, but I'm going to schedule my dental work for when I'm in the area and make them my go-to dental office.

To diagnose bruxism and determine if you would benefit from a night guard, our team will perform a thorough dental examination. You can relax in one of our treatment chairs wearing MINT sunglasses and listening to your favorite music through Beats headphones while the exam is performed. After the MINT dentistry team diagnoses your bruxism, we will take impressions and digital x-rays of your mouth, so your custom night guard can be designed. MINT dentistry will send this information to a dental laboratory where your night guard will be crafted out of high-quality materials with advanced technology. When your night guard is sent back to our office, you will be scheduled for a fitting. A member of the MINT dentistry team may make minor adjustments to your night guard to ensure it fits comfortably. We will also give you instructions on how to care for your night guard, so it remains in great condition for a long time.

For your night guard to work effectively, you will need to wear it every night, or as recommended by our dental professionals. Your night guard should minimize or eliminate the pain and dental problems caused by bruxism, but if not, please contact our office so we can address the problem immediately. To help keep your mouth and night guard healthy, you should clean your teeth and guard before and after each use. Your night guard should be brought in to all future appointments, so we can make adjustments or repairs as needed.
